These tips are invaluable, and you really will be… ‘so glad you did’ once you’ve read our to-do-list

‘I’m so glad I did!’  -   Moving Tips

1.            When out shopping, start picking up boxes from various stores that offer them for free. Most stores are glad to recycle them your way. Helpful tip – ‘you will need far more than you thought you did!’

2.            Don’t compromise when it comes to buying some really good quality box tape. Buy some red markers and some labels, buy more than you think you need, they will always come in handy if you don’t use them all for your move day.

3.            Use two different coloured pens to write on your boxes – a red marker for fragile items (write FRAGILE on the box) and a blue or black marker to write on the box the nature of the contents. This will save invaluable time when you arrive at your destination!

4.            Buy a few pairs of extra scissors! You will really be glad you did with this tip! You can never find one pair of scissors when you need them and an extra pair or two will always be useful down the line.

5.            If you are a family, or friends sharing accommodation, whatever the circumstances, with multiple occupants in the home… write the name of the person they belong to on the box – this really is a good tip. The box can go straight to their room on arrival. Always MAKE SURE you summarise the contents on the box e.g.  Richard – miscellaneous drawer

6.            Start going through your sheets, keeping the older ones you don’t need - covering mattresses and lounge furniture should it rain the other end.

7.            As soon as you know your start date , start asking family and friends if they can help with the move.

8.            Consider hiring a larger van, one that comes with a tail lift, especially if you have white goods and things, are sharp underneath.

9.            Don’t put off what you can do today, is a great motto! If you can think of anything you can today, do it. There is no time like the present.

10.         Remember hiring a larger van, the more you can fit into a van, the less stressful it will be.

11.         Make a list of all your bulky items and keep adding to it as you go along, when completed, you will have a much better idea of how big a van you will need.

12.         Pat yourself on the back when you are all packed! You’ve done a great job and deserve some fish & chips on the day you move. You’ve earned it!
